NEW DELHI: As Team India beat South Africa in record time in Cape Town on Thursday, Rohit Sharma and Co. were lauded by the cricketing fraternity for their outstanding fight in the shortest Test in the history of cricket.
In the game that lasted a mere 107 overs (642 balls) — India beat the Proteas by 7 wickets to register their first ever Test win in Cape Town.
After Mohammed Siraj’s magical burst on the opening day, Jasprit Bumrah bowled a fiery spell in the morning session on Day 2, helping India to a famous win.
Amid the historic win, the team was lauded by former cricketers with legendary Sachin Tendulkar leading the wishes.
“Well bowled by Bumrah, who showed us exactly, how bowling in the channel consistently is all that’s required on such type of wickets,” wrote Tendulkar on his social media platform X.

Tendulkar also hailed South African opener Aiden Markram, who weathered hostile bowling on a difficult track to score a dogged 106 in the second essay.
Former India opener Virender Sehwag, while being tongue-in-cheek in his remark about the opposition, said India’s pace bowling attack was one of the most threatening in the world.

India’s wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik said he would have loved to watch a third Test in the series.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah praised the Indian bowlers for utilising the favourable conditions, while also applauding Rohit Sharma’s leadership skills.
