Transfer news LIVE!

All this talk of early transfer deals and players making moves before the Euros, and it is the managers who are dominating the headlines. While Chelsea appear to have wrapped up their first deal of the summer, in the form of Brazilian wonderkid Estevao Willian, they have also lost another manager, with Mauricio Pochettino leaving by mutual consent.

That means the third permanent manager search in just over a year and a half, with Kieran McKenna and Enzo Maresca the key targets, while Pochettino is of interest to Manchester United… and England. Vincent Kompany was considered but looks to be off to Bayern Munich. Liverpool already have a new manager in Arne Slot, who wants to make PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko his first signing.

Transfer-wise, Arsenal want a new striker with Alexander Isak the main target, but Ajax’s Brian Brobbey and RB Leipzig‘s Benjamin Sesko are considered more likely options. Tottenham are in the same boat, with Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez of interest, along with Ivan Toney and Dominic Solanke. Follow all the latest news, rumours and gossip with Standard Sport‘s live transfer centre below!

Arsenal are preparing an improved bid for Ferdi Kadioglu after an offer of £17million was rejected.

That’s according to Turkish outlet Milliyet, who say the Fenerbahce left-back is keen on signing for the Gunners.

It is not clear what it will take to land Kadioglu, amid rival interest from Borussia Dortmund.

It is claimed in this report that Arsenal will add over £4m in bonuses to tempt Fenerbahce into a deal while others talk of a fee over £25m being required.

Liverpool have been scouting PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko ahead of a potential summer move.

According to Dutch journalist Rik Elfrink, Bakayoko is of interest to a host of clubs across Europe and the Reds are among them – most recently scouting him during a 5-1 win over AZ Alkmaar in April.

A fee could be similar to the £37million Liverpool paid for Cody Gakpo around 18 months ago. Liverpool want a new wide attacker this summer for manager Arne Slot.

Tottenham weigh up bargain deal for Gimenez

07:42 , Alex Young

Tottenham have made signing a new striker a key summer transfer priority.

The likes of Ivan Toney and Dominic Solanke have been linked in recent days, and now Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez is back in the frame according a new report.

Gimenez has scored 26 goals in 41 games for Feyenoord this season, plus eight assists, and was spotted at Totttenham’s stadium with his agent last month.

TeamTALK claim, despite the striker’s prolific output, his asking price has dropped since January. A deal in the winter would have cost around £80million – and now the 23-year-old could be available for a fee closer to £30m.

07:27 , Alex Young

Arsenal are still dreaming of signing Alexander Isak but are exploring alternative options, with Newcastle not playing ball..

That is according to The Independent, who say Isak is the No1 target with Ajax attacker Brian Brobbey the top alternative ahead of Viktor Gyokeres.

Brobbey was asked by Dutch TV last week about his future and said: “Arsenal, I think that is a very nice club. If you look at that stadium. A very nice club, but that also applies to Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid.”

Every Chelsea manager target assessed: Who replaces Mauricio Pochettino?

07:13 , Alex Young

Chelsea have drawn up a shortlist of managers to replace Mauricio Pochettino as they begin their search for a third permanent manager within two years.

Ruben Amorim, Kieran McKenna and Sebastian Hoeness are the leading candidates, with Michel and Enzo Maresca also of interest.

Amorim has been linked with a number of Premier League jobs, Ipswich’s McKenna is also of interest to former club Manchester United and Hoeness is considered the next big thing in German coaching. The latter two have connections with Manchester City and Pep Guardiola.

Here’s Malik Ouzia to run the rule over the favoured five!

Manager merry-go-round: McKenna

07:08 , Alex Young

Kieran McKenna, fresh from beating the likes of Pep Guardiola to LMA manager of the year, garners plenty of interest after guiding Ipswich from League One to the Premier League in 18 months.

He is among the leading contenders to replace Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea, and is a candidate to replace Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford should there be a change of coach there.

McKenna previously worked as Under-18s coach at United, and had a similar role at Tottenham.

According to various outlets, McKenna is ready to listen to offers from Chelsea and United, and will reject any attempts by Ipswich to get him to stay put.

So that completes our merry-go-round of sorts. Well, at least until Ten Hag ends up at Burnley or Ipswich.

Manager merry-go-round: Tuchel

06:56 , Alex Young

That leaves Thomas Tuchel, fresh from telling Bayern to do one after being told months ago he would no longer be wanted, needing a new club.

The German is believed to want a return to the Premier League after a successful spell with Chelsea – winning the Champions League and the fans’ hearts, but not Todd Boehly’s.

But it became very clear hours after Mauricio Pochettino’s exit that Chelsea would not be an option. The club didn’t want it, and neither did the coach.

That leaves Manchester United, who want Pochettino and who Pochettino wants, and are expected to sack Erik ten Hag.

Will Pochettino get his wish, will Tuchel, or will Ten Hag? See earlier posts on those topics.

But there is another name floating around: that of former United coach Kieran McKenna. And he is of significant interest to both United and Chelsea.

Manager merry-go-round: Kompany

06:46 , Alex Young

When Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea exit was announced, it made perfect sense for the Argentine to head to Bayern, reunite with former Tottenham stars Harry Kane and Eric Dier and everything would be right again with the world.

But no. Bayern, having decided to get rid of Thomas Tuchel, have gone after and been rejected by Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann, Ralf Rangnick, Hansi Flick, Roger Schmidt and, incredibly, Thomas Tuchel.

So that has left them with Vincent Kompany, who is enjoying a somewhat burgeoning reputation in coaching but did just get Burnley relegated from the Premier League. Though that was always a tall order to keep them up.

According to widespread reports, Kompany will be confirmed as the new Bayern manager by early next week.

Manager merry-go-round: Ten Hag

06:36 , Alex Young

So, with Erik ten Hag looking likely to leave Old Trafford – where could he end up?

Well, Bayern Munich were an option as they work down their list of options after rejection after rejection.

According to reports in Germany only last week, Bayern were sniffing around the Dutchman despite his underwhelming performance in Manchester.

However, their interest did not last long and moved on to other targets.

That leaves Ten Hag clinging on to hope of a change of heart from Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

About Bayern though…

Manager merry-go-round: Pochettino

06:24 , Alex Young

So, Mauricio Pochettino and Chelsea have parted ways by mutual consent.

There appears no bad blood between both parties, despite the surprise nature of the split – though the players are clearly not over the moon with the development.

Chelsea now need to find a replacement manager, with five names in the mix, and Pochettino is a wanted man.

According to the Times, Manchester United will turn to the Argentine if Erik ten Hag is sacked.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Ten Hag is definitely getting sacked.

According to the Telegraph, United may face competition from the England national team for Pochettino.

It is suggested that any club would have to pay a minimum of £4m in compensation for McKenna and his staff.

Mykhailo Mudryk hints at desired new Chelsea boss

He certainly would with one player!

Mykhailo Mudryk has ‘liked’ an Instagram post hinting at a possible agreement between De Zerbi and Chelsea (which there is no serious indication of at this point, by the way). The Italian coached Mudryk at Shakhtar Donetsk and can be said to have gotten the best out of him.

We’re entering the transfer silly season where this sort of thing gets latched onto more and more by social media (and, yes, blogs like this…) so buckle up!

How will Real Madrid replace Toni Kroos?

Wednesday 22 May 2024 14:07 , Marc Mayo

Following the announcement of Toni Kroos’ exit from Real Madrid this summer, which has prompted his retirement, the question now turns to who will replace the German playmaker.

Spanish outlet AS say Los Blancos will not necessarily sign a new midfielder to fill his position.

Instead, Jude Bellingham could be dropped into a deeper role with Dani Ceballos and Arda Guler candidates for more regular minutes.

Of course, there is the factor of Kylian Mbappe to consider and the Frenchman’s arrival could see him slot in up front, moving Bellingham back in a 4-3-3 formation…

Bayern Munich hone in on two manager targets

Wednesday 22 May 2024 13:53 , Marc Mayo

Sky Sports in Germany are reporting on Bayern Munich continuing discussions with Burnley boss Vincent Kompany over taking over from Thomas Tuchel.

But the Bavarians are willing to wait to see if Mauricio Pochettino will join them first, having made no agreements with Kompany or his club.

It’s all a bit carousel across the managerial market right now with, in the last few moments, Marca reporting on Barcelona meeting with Hansi Flick about potentially succeeding Xavi.

Their chat in London has seen economic issues emerge as the major hurdle to a deal, should Barcelona sack their club legend and look for a new coach.

But the future of Ivan Toney remains less clear, amid links with the Gunners, Chelsea, Tottenham and others.

“He’s a Brentford player right now and I’m the coach and I love to have the best players so I would love to have him in the club, but there’s a lot of rumours and he’s a very good player,” Frank told The Mail when asked about Toney.

As for Raya, currently on loan at Arsenal but with an option to make the move permanent, he said: “That I’m more clear on. He will be in Arsenal. They will be more than happy to have him, and I don’t expect anything else than they will trigger that option.”

Pochettino leaves Chelsea with reputation enhanced as Man Utd keep tabs

Wednesday 22 May 2024 12:35 , Alex Young

There were times during the season when Mauricio Pochettino appeared certain to be the next manager to be chewed up and spat out by Chelsea.

For most of the campaign, Chelsea’s form was rocky at best, a step forward almost always followed by a setback, and there were some grim lows for the Argentine and his players.

Somewhat remarkably, however, Pochettino walks away from Chelsea with his reputation intact, maybe even enhanced, after a year in west London.

Manchester United will surely be mulling over him as a replacement for Erik ten Hag, particularly as he is well-regarded by the club’s co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Bayern Munich and Juventus will be among the other European giants eyeing Pochettino.

Next Chelsea manager odds: De Zerbi early favourite to replace Pochettino

New Barcelona deal for Alexia Putellas

Tuesday 21 May 2024 17:40 , Marc Mayo

Barcelona attacking midfielder Alexia Putellas has signed a contract extension until 2026.

The 2021 and 2022 Ballon d’Or Feminin winner, 30, who won the 2023 Women’s World Cup with Spain, is a product of the Barcelona academy and her contract was due to expire at the end of the season.

“Barcelona and Alexia Putellas have reached an agreement for the player to stay at the club for two more seasons through to 30 June 2026, with the option of a third year,” the club said in a statement.

What next for Romelu Lukaku?

Tuesday 21 May 2024 16:55 , Marc Mayo

Another return to Chelsea looms for Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgian striker is suspended for Roma’s final game of the season and reports in Italy say it is unlikely they can afford the £37m fee fixed by the Blues for a permanent move away.

Under contract to 2026, Lukaku looks set to have to find a new club but his 21-goal haul in the Italian capital will have done the 31-year-old no harm.

Mauricio Pochettino appears unlikely to want him, although Chelsea’s owners will probably take it out of his hands by looking to sell.

It will require a European or Premier League club to take a big gamble on him, as he’s not cheap enough to be a mere back-up striker and he won’t want to drop too far down. Naturally, there will be Saudi Arabian links but he reportedly snubbed such a move last year.

“If you look at that stadium. A very nice club, but that also applies to Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid. I have a contract until 2027.

Benjamin Sesko agent hands Arsenal boost

Arsenal have been given a boost in their pursuit of Benjamin Sesko after his agent confirmed Italian clubs will struggle to afford the striker, and he doesn’t want to move to Saudi Arabia.

“It is my duty to listen to offers that arise. We need to work on giving Benjamin more opportunities at the end of the season. But that’s his decision.

Pochettino future in the balance

Tuesday 21 May 2024 11:10 , Matt Verri

Mauricio Pochettino will seek assurances on Chelsea’s plans for next season when he sits down with Blues chiefs for talks over his future, writes Nick Purewal.

Pochettino’s position at Stamford Bridge is in the balance, despite overseeing a late-season surge to finish sixth and qualify for Europe.

Chelsea have sounded out Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim and Ipswich’s Kieran McKenna as potential managerial replacements, amid uncertainty on Pochettino’s future.

Pochettino has this week been due to meet with Chelsea co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, as well as sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, to review the season.

But while much of the early commentary around the end-of-season review was focused around Chelsea assessing Pochettino, the 52-year-old coach will also take the chance to evaluate his employers.

Pochettino will be a coach in high demand should he depart Chelsea this summer, with a host of elite clubs in England and Europe either already looking for a new manager or seriously weighing up a change.

West Ham to enter £15m race

Tuesday 21 May 2024 10:45 , Matt Verri

West Ham are considering a summer move for Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy as Julen Lopetegui targets a new centre-forward to provide the firepower to launch his tenure.

Guirassy finished second to Harry Kane in the race for the Bundesliga golden boot, scoring 28 times in as many league matches for a Stuttgart side that leapfrogged Bayern Munich on the final day to finish second to unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen.

The Guinea international only signed for Stuttgart permanently last summer following a successful loan spell from Koln but appears likely to move on in the upcoming window, with Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund also among those keen.

The 28-year-old’s contract includes a release clause of just £15million and Stuttgart know they will struggle to hold onto their prized asset despite themselves qualifying for the Champions League next term.
